My husband and I have a pretty unique relationship. We both are very sarcastic and have no brain to mouth filter. We poke fun at each other, make each other laugh until our tummies hurt or until I’m rolling on the floor about to pee my pants – trust me this makes him laugh harder.
I love that my husband thinks that he is clever and funny; it keeps me on my toes as I sit back and stare in awe at the words that often come out of his mouth. I have often muttered WTF? Did you really just say that? probably a few hundred times a week. I’ve previously posted about how my husband’s comments often have me struck in the moment thinking how much of a giant pain in my butt he is, but I secretly admire his ability to turn the worst of days into happy days filled with smiles and laughter.
Laughter is the best part of our relationship. It has helped us through some very tough situations that we have faced, especially this last year. We needed to laugh, and we needed our children to see us enjoying life and having fun together. I mean, if you can’t laugh with your spouse – or at them – then you might be going about things in the wrong direction. With the year, we had. Laughter was the best medicine.
Now for many years, this playful banter was private and then my husband discovered Facebook; now the rest of the world understands what I am dealing with. He will often post about not-so-amazing moments from being incredibly clumsy or trying to outsmart him that usually end up in an epic fail for me.
These are the top outbursts that my husband has created with his humor, or ridiculousness as I call it.
- When I was 8 months pregnant with our oldest, back in 2002, an older woman asked me if I was pregnant. My husband replied, “Nope, she’s just fat.” The look on this poor woman’s face was priceless. I really had to hold myself back as I explained to her that he was just being funny and that I really was almost 8 months pregnant. She politely smiled and shook her head.
- Upon completing one of these Facebook’s Who is Your Soulmate quizzes – to which the Facebook Gods proclaimed that someone with my initials was the perfect match, my husband immediately shared the results with the following comment “Who is this CG woman and why is she stalking me? It’s a little creepy.”
- A few months ago, when the kids were being annoying little brats and wouldn’t go to sleep, my husband once again took to Facebook with the following on my Facebook page: “When are your kids going to bed? I never thought I’d date a girl with kids.” Um, last I checked, they are your kids too dork.
What are some things that have you and your spouse laughing for days about? Do you share personal inside jokes that would make the world think you’re crazy?
